Quality & Sourcing Policy
At NileCrest, quality isn’t a single checkpoint — it’s built into every stage of how we source, test, pack, and ship. This page outlines our approach, from selecting the partners we work with through to the point your shipment leaves Egypt.
1. Supplier & Partner Selection
NileCrest works through a network of partner packing stations and freezing facilities across Egypt’s agricultural regions, rather than owning production infrastructure directly. This allows us to source from growers and processors best suited to each product and season, while maintaining direct oversight of quality at every step.
Partners are selected based on:
- Track record of consistent product quality and reliable output
- Willingness to accommodate NileCrest’s inspection and documentation requirements
- Proximity to key growing regions and export logistics hubs
- Capacity to meet the specifications and volumes required for container-based export orders
2. Produce & Product Testing
Before any product is accepted for export, it undergoes assessment against agreed specifications, which typically include:
- Visual and physical quality checks (size, color, ripeness/condition, defect rate)
- Product-specific testing appropriate to the category (e.g., moisture content for dates, consistency and Brix level for tomato paste, quality checks for pasta production runs)
- Batch sampling to confirm consistency across the full order quantity
Specifications are agreed with each buyer at the time of order confirmation and can be adjusted to match destination market requirements where feasible.
3. Packaging & Packing Procedures
- Products are packed according to specifications suited to each category and to the requirements of the destination market and shipping method.
- Packaging materials are selected to protect product integrity across the transit time and conditions expected for each route (e.g., insulated or temperature-controlled packing for IQF products where required).
- Container loading follows practices designed to maintain product condition throughout transit, including appropriate stacking, ventilation, and — where applicable — temperature monitoring for frozen and chilled cargo.
4. Pre-Shipment Inspection
- Products are inspected prior to loading to confirm they meet the agreed order specification.
- Buyers may request additional third-party pre-shipment inspection at their own arrangement; NileCrest will accommodate reasonable inspection windows and provide access to shipment documentation to support this.
- Any discrepancy identified before loading is addressed prior to shipment, in coordination with the buyer where relevant to the order timeline.
5. Shipping Partner Selection
NileCrest works with shipping and freight partners selected based on:
- Reliability and track record on relevant trade routes (Egypt to Europe, Gulf, and East Africa)
- Appropriate handling capability for the product category (e.g., reefer container availability and cold-chain competence for frozen/chilled goods)
- Transparent documentation and tracking practices, so buyers have visibility into shipment status
6. Sustainability, Packaging & Carbon Footprint — Where We Stand
The EU market is moving toward greater transparency on packaging, sustainability, and carbon footprint. Here’s what’s actually relevant to NileCrest’s products today, and what isn’t yet:
Directly applicable — EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR): From 12 August 2026, all packaging placed on the EU market must comply with the EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2025/40), which applies uniformly across all member states with no transition grace period. This covers restrictions on substances of concern (including PFAS limits in food-contact packaging) and heavy metals, recyclability requirements, and registration obligations for anyone placing packaged goods on the EU market — including exporters like NileCrest. We are reviewing our packaging materials and specifications against these requirements ahead of the deadline, as part of our preparation for the European market.
Not yet applicable to our product categories: Frameworks such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) are shaping the EU’s broader sustainability landscape, but as of today neither directly covers NileCrest’s product categories (fresh produce, IQF frozen fruit and vegetables, dates, pasta, and tomato products) — CBAM currently applies to steel, cement, aluminium, fertilisers, electricity, and hydrogen, and EUDR to commodities such as cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy, cattle, and wood. We monitor both in case their scope extends to our categories in future.
What this means in practice today:
- Active review of packaging materials and specifications against PPWR requirements ahead of the 12 August 2026 deadline
- Full traceability of sourcing partners and production batches (see Sections 1–2 above) — the same records that would support future carbon or sustainability reporting requirements
- Monitoring of the regulatory landscape (PPWR, CBAM, EUDR, CSRD, and related frameworks) so we can respond early as requirements evolve
Where we’re headed: A verified carbon footprint assessment and formal sustainability documentation are part of what we’re building toward over the coming period, alongside the certification roadmap outlined below. Until that data is verified, we’ll describe our practices honestly rather than use labels like “carbon neutral” or “sustainable” ahead of having the evidence to support them. 7. Our Path Toward International Certification
NileCrest is a company under active establishment, and we believe in being transparent about where we are on that journey.
We do not yet hold formal third-party certifications such as GlobalG.A.P, ISO, or HACCP. What we do have in place today is a set of internal quality and traceability practices — the sourcing, testing, packaging, and inspection procedures outlined above — applied consistently across every order.
Pursuing recognized international certifications is part of our growth roadmap, and we will update this page as milestones are achieved. We’d rather build that track record honestly, one shipment at a time, than make claims ahead of where we actually are.
